Doubleday

I'm sorry to say I pre-ordered on the Kindle, loaded it up to listen to on the drive to work, and found that they disabled the "read aloud" feature for the book. What gives, Doubleday? Don't count me among the Kindle buyers on that one--I've returned it.

What gives?---What's going on?

nook is toast

In this case, the unlucky nook is not from a mighty cosmic power like Google or Microsoft where you might say "well, they can overcome anything" (though they can't), so the verdict is especially clear in this gadget guy's book: nook is toast.

If you challenge her, you're toast.

I betcha they weren't planning that till Amazon goosed the price on Kindle last week down to $259.

It makes the Sony Reader and iRex look absurdly overpriced and the Plastic Logic Que look like a shot in the dark.

If you describe something someone says or does as a shot in the dark or a stab in the dark, you mean they are guessing that what they say is correct or that what they do will be successful.
Every single one of those inspired guesses had been shots in the dark.

snap up

So, anyone snapping this up? Wait, who let the crickets out?

snap up
        If you snap something up, you buy it quickly because it is cheap or is just what you want.
        Every time we get a new delivery of clothes, people are queuing to snap them up...
        One eagle-eyed collector snapped up a pair of Schiaparelli earrings for just $6.

Burger King selling a Windows 7 Whopper in Japan

 Confirming our belief that Japan is at once among the coolest and craziest places on this planet we all call home is Burger King's exclusive Windows 7 Whopper. Seven stacked beef patties extend your usual Whopper to over five inches in height and the whole thing costs an appropriate ¥777 (or $8.55). It'll be available for one week only -- or seven days, get it? Join us past the break to see the full towering size of this meaty monstrosity.

Update: Andy Yang, our Engadget Chinese editor, has read the smallprint and noted that in fact only the first 30 customers each day will get the Win 7 Whopper at ¥777, with the rest shelling out a cool ¥1,450 ($17.10) for the privilege. Way to break with the number 7 theme, guys.

the very first Microsoft Store inParis

there's some WiFi available for those looking for a place to loiter around.

Japan may be home to the Windows 7 Whopper, and the US has the less edible contents of the very first Microsoft Store, but it looks like Paris may be the real place to be for out and about Windows fans, as it can now claim the only Windows Cafe in the world as its own alongside all those other little tourist attractions you might be interested in. Better still, it looks like the cafe serves up at least as many types of drinks as Windows editions, and there's some WiFi available for those looking for a place to loiter around. Hit up the link below for a peek inside courtesy of Le Journal du Geek.

So when they close at night, do the room lights and/or front windows turn blue??

No, but if too many people place their orders at once, service slows to a crawl.

The WiFi won't accept iPhone connections though, move along.

you can read an e-book on your PC while at home (or elsewhere), then send that same e-book to your iPhone or Kindle and pick up reading where you left off.

A=OFFSET(通訊錄!$A$1,0,0,COUNTA( 通訊錄 !$A:$A),1)
AA=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(MATCH( 照片座位表 !$A$1,A,0),3,1,," 照片座位表 "))

For x = 7 To 10
With Selection.Borders(x)
.LineStyle = xlContinuous
.Weight = xlThin
.ColorIndex = xlAutomatic
End With
Next x

利用的函數:VLOOKUP(要查詢的值或字串,資料的所在位置,第一欄或第二欄,真或假)

RAND(), INT(), ROUNDUP(), ROUNDDOWN(), SUMSQ(), IF().

make a windfall

If you're hoping to reach the mainstream, the best you can hope for is your app catches on fire and charts high enough for you to make a windfall," Ryu said. "Essentially you aim for the jackpot, and if you don't hit that, it's not going to make you a living.

挑片

I'm not saying they aren't any good but some dvd roms don't like certain media. I've used memorex, maxell with no problems.

My biggest concern with LiteOn are the incompatibility issues with DVD-ROMs.

I have known that sometimes it's an issue when you buy a certain brand or type of blank DVD.

Yeah but for the same price, you really better go with the Sony for look and quality. Text to speech is a hard to listen gimmick. If the other were 150$ I would not say but for the same price, go Sony.

I'm not too worried about the battery life. If I'm playing a game, I'll more than likely stay plugged into the wall.
