nook is toast

In this case, the unlucky nook is not from a mighty cosmic power like Google or Microsoft where you might say "well, they can overcome anything" (though they can't), so the verdict is especially clear in this gadget guy's book: nook is toast.

I betcha they weren't planning that till Amazon goosed the price on Kindle last week down to $259.

It makes the Sony Reader and iRex look absurdly overpriced and the Plastic Logic Que look like a shot in the dark.

If you describe something someone says or does as a shot in the dark or a stab in the dark, you mean they are guessing that what they say is correct or that what they do will be successful.
Every single one of those inspired guesses had been shots in the dark.

Burger King selling a Windows 7 Whopper in Japan

Confirming our belief that Japan is at once among the coolest and craziest places on this planet we all call home is Burger King's exclusive Windows 7 Whopper. Seven stacked beef patties extend your usual Whopper to over five inches in height and the whole thing costs an appropriate ¥777 (or $8.55). It'll be available for one week only -- or seven days, get it? Join us past the break to see the full towering size of this meaty monstrosity.

Update: Andy Yang, our Engadget Chinese editor, has read the smallprint and noted that in fact only the first 30 customers each day will get the Win 7 Whopper at ¥777, with the rest shelling out a cool ¥1,450 ($17.10) for the privilege. Way to break with the number 7 theme, guys.

there's some WiFi available for those looking for a place to loiter around.

Japan may be home to the Windows 7 Whopper, and the US has the less edible contents of the very first Microsoft Store, but it looks like Paris may be the real place to be for out and about Windows fans, as it can now claim the only Windows Cafe in the world as its own alongside all those other little tourist attractions you might be interested in. Better still, it looks like the cafe serves up at least as many types of drinks as Windows editions, and there's some WiFi available for those looking for a place to loiter around. Hit up the link below for a peek inside courtesy of Le Journal du Geek.

So when they close at night, do the room lights and/or front windows turn blue??

No, but if too many people place their orders at once, service slows to a crawl.

The WiFi won't accept iPhone connections though, move along.

Ground rule double

In baseball, a ground rule double is any award of two bases from the time of pitch to all baserunners including the batter-runner. Such an award is traditionally called a "ground rule" double even though the award is usually not a result of ground rules. Most commonly, a batted ball bouncing fair on the field and then leaving play (such as over a fence) is called a ground rule double. However, any fair ball that leaves the playing field in a situation where regulations prohibit calling the hit a home run is also a ground rule double.

Minnesota was hurt by a blown call by left-field umpire Phil Cuzzi in the top of the 11th. Joe Mauer started the inning with a drive down the line that appeared to go off Melky Cabrera 's glove before clearly landing about a foot inside the line and bouncing into the stands.
Cuzzi said it was foul - it's been a tough week for umpires, with several missed calls - and Mauer ended up with a single when he should have had a ground-rule double.
''You can't see at all from the dugout, but I think we all know the ball was fair by a long ways,'' Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

get amped up

“I like the atmosphere,” he said. “I really just get amped up for games like that where you have a crowd just all over you and just kind of just being in a territory that you’re really not comfortable in.”

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz(notes) must avoid getting too amped up for his first postseason start.

"Certainly, you've got to put that one right at the top,"
"That's what home-field advantage does for you. Last night was a classic example of [how] 103 games makes a difference. Being the last to hit was a huge advantage for us."
That set the tone for things to come,
we should be up for the challenge."

Many fans called to proclaim their unbending allegiance and discuss the plethora of "Can you believe it?" moments still fresh in the minds of millions following the Yankees' 4-3 win in 11 innings.
"I'm just finally glad he got the monkey off his back," said longtime Yankees fan Tim May after watching Rodriguez go 2-for-4 with a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth inning. "Because once it's off, it's off for good. And personally, he's been tortured [in the media] and living in Jeter's shadow. I'm really happy for him."

A plethora of something is a large amount of it, especially an amount of it that is greater than you need, want, or can cope with. (FORMAL)

A=OFFSET(通訊錄!$A$1,0,0,COUNTA( 通訊錄 !$A:$A),1)
AA=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(MATCH( 照片座位表 !$A$1,A,0),3,1,," 照片座位表 "))

3 指的是第三行。
$A$1 指的是需要查詢的儲存格位置。

通訊錄是放資料的地方。
照片座位表要查詢的地方。

from the get-go

"That's kind of what I expected from the get-go," Dunn said. "With that lineup, I don't see why we shouldn't havea few of those [big] innings a night. It was a lot of fun, but I don't think it was very unexpected on our side."

利用的函數:VLOOKUP(要查詢的值或字串,資料的所在位置,第一欄或第二欄,真或假)

RAND(), INT(), ROUNDUP(), ROUNDDOWN(), SUMSQ(), IF().
